Ruby Red Grapefruit

Enjoy heart-healthy grapefruit all year long with the Ruby Red. This grapefruit is seedless and easy to peel for a no-hassle morning routine. Rich in vitamin C, potassium and fiber, the Ruby Red is perfect for helping you get your daily nutrients. Not only is this grapefruit extremely healthy, but it is also exceptionally sweet and plump. Its slight tangy flavor gives your taste buds a pep in their step before you head off to your busy day. With all of these benefits, it's not surprising that the Ruby Red is America's most popular grapefruit.

The Ruby Red grapefruit thrives anywhere when it's potted. Just be sure to bring it indoors during the cold winter months. Even indoors, this grapefruit is fragrant all winter. Plant it near a sunny window and it will soak in the sun's rays to grow decadent fruit. When potted, the Ruby Red can be pruned to five to six feet. As a patio plant, it thrives best in growing zones 4 through 11. Zones 8 through 11 are ideal when the grapefruit is planted in the ground. Outdoors, the Ruby Red can grow to an impressive 15 to 20 feet high and eight to ten feet wide.

Plant your Ruby Red in full to partial sun. This tree grows extremely fast and is hardy against pests and disease. You'll get mouthwatering grapefruit with a pale lemon color blushed with scrumptious pink. The thick leaves are a vibrant and rich green. This grapefruit tree is extremely pleasing to the eye, wonderfully fragrant, fast growing and deliciously appetizing.

The Ruby Red grapefruit produces the most fruit during December and May, though it produces all year round. Its drought tolerance is just okay, so be sure to plant it in a location where it can get enough water. Grapefruit is great with sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg or honey, though this grapefruit is so sweet that you won't need any extra flavor. The Ruby Red is also perfect for making juice or adding to meals like salads and yogurts.

Order your guaranteed non-GMO Ruby Red grapefruit tree from us today, and start enjoying your grapefruit right away. We prune our trees back so you'll get the biggest harvest possible the very first year. Plant America's most popular grapefruit and you'll see why this variety is such a hot seller.

Planting & Care

Planting and caring for your new fruit tree is easy. To get started, find a good spot in your yard or a large container. The location should have good drainage and adequate sunlight. For a container, be sure there are drainage holes in the bottom and that it is large enough for the root ball to fit with some extra room.

In the yard, dig a hole that is a few inches shallower than the height of the root ball and three times as wide. The roots need room to spread outwards, but you don't want it to sit too deep in the hole. If your soil is especially dense and compacted, you may need to go out wider and loosen up the soil.

Before placing the root ball in the hole or container, pull the roots gently to space them out a little and cut off any damaged roots. Place the tree into the hole or container, ensuring that the point at which the roots meet the trunk is going to be an inch or two above the surrounding soil.

Carefully add the soil back into the hole or add your potting mix to the container. It helps to have one person hold the tree upright while you do this. It helps to keep the tree straight. As you fill in the soil, take steps to prevent air pockets from forming by removing large pieces of debris, breaking up large, dense clumps of soil, and water a little at a time. The soil should slope downward from the trunk to prevent water pooling around the roots, but the tops of the largest roots should protrude from the soil.

Water your new tree thoroughly to settle the soil. Water it again when the top two-inch layer of soil dries out. As your tree grows and the roots develop, you can water less often. Your tree will arrive pruned, so you only need to prune it once a year, in early spring, to keep its shape and to promote more fruit development, or to keep it small if you are growing in a container.

Fertilizer is not always necessary. If your tree grows well and looks healthy, it probably doesn't need any feeding. If you are not happy with how fast it is growing, of if you notice any signs of poor nutrition, you can apply an appropriate fertilizer once or twice a year. Our trees are hardy and you should not need to spray for pests or disease.

Shipping

Most items ship the next business day unless otherwise noted

We take pride in accurate and on-time shipping dates. Of course there are factors that could delay these dates. These are estimates, and we cannot guarantee exact shipping dates. Shipping live products has its challenges and occasionally Mother Nature does not abide by our time frames. On rare occasions we have to delay shipping due to severe weather forecasts in your area or ours. Sometimes the seasons are delayed and plants take longer to reach specifications. Although these types of delays are rare, we try to keep you informed. The health of your plants is our highest concern.

Spring Shipping
Due to the nature of certain cold sensitive plants, it is best to ship them during months with milder temperatures. Spring shipped items are identified on their product page, as well as information on Northern States that ship in spring. Most trees and plants we carry can safely be planted year-round, but you may prefer planting in warmer weather. If you would like to receive a plant earlier than designated or delay its delivery date, we are happy to schedule what’s most convenient. Just call us at 1-888-286-1004.

What Will I Receive

Will my Trees Look Like the Photographs?

Most trees and plants on the website are pictured in their mature form. Depending on the product and growth rate, mature development can take years for your plant to resemble the photos.

Picture the last time you took a walk in the woods. The young trees were not miniature bonsai versions of mature trees. Instead they were naturally thin and lanky. Young trees are programmed to race toward the light, before the competing vegetation crowds them out. Once established, they start developing a wide canopy and shedding lower limbs.

Pruning & Trimming

Most Fruiting Plants Are Pruned Before Shipping... At No Cost To You!

Pruning makes plants appear to be less-full than the ones you may have seen at your local big box garden center. A retailer's goal is to have plants look their best while sitting in the store. Our goal is to have them look the best after you plant them.

Pruned trees and shrubs not only travel better, but become established much quicker. So rather than supporting extra foliage, they put their energy into sending out deep roots. Once that happens, your plants become hardier and quickly explode with new top growth. Above the ground, pruning helps your plants develop a more attractive form.
